Warm-Up Film: QUEEN OF AMSTERDAM (Chez Nous)

Chez Nous is a place where everything is possible. It is a refuge for people who the owner of a neighboring restaurant calls “weirdos”. The meager business is supported by a by a small but loyal clientele, who enjoy the pleasant atmosphere, the friendliness of the long-time owner Adje and the nightly drag shows. For the performer Bertie, the barmaid Babette, the lawyer Peter-Jan, and the regulars Gijs and Rachid, it’s more than just a pub – it’s their home. Unfortunately, the future of the pub is far from certain, as it is threatened with closure due to financial looms. A coming-out story, a family reunion and a David vs. Goliath battle on several fronts, health problems, marital disharmony and transience – all this awaits us. And if that’s not enough, there’s a young romance, a turf war and a clash of culture and class in more ways than one, a heist that alludes to “Mission: Impossible,” the Amsterdam CSD and a message of acceptance and understanding.

The film runs Wednesday, Sept. 29, at 8 p.m. at the Kinos im Andreasstadel – more info on the current rules for visiting the cinema and tickets here.
