The Duties of a Lighthouse Keeper
Germany 2026 | 8 min | Directed by: Rory Midhani

Selma
Germany 2025 | 29 min | Directed by: Christina Maria Schmid
This short film tells a story that is both deeply personal and politically charged. At its heart, this film is about love, but also about fear, courage and the high price of standing idly by in the face of increasing oppression and violence. We meet two women who are trying to survive, remain true to themselves and support one another.

Dickflip
Poland 2025 | 15 min | Directed by: Dominik Hadziewicz
Statement of the jury:
Sambor befriends a group of young men at the skate park. But, fearing they might find out he is trans, he gets into a row.
Throughout the film, the audience’s perspective remains closely focused on the main character, who moves between physical self-confidence in private and lingering insecurity in public spaces. Not being allowed to reveal one’s own identity is – it seems – the story’s ongoing conflict. The audience also takes this conflict for granted, given the widespread social resentment and structural discrimination against trans people around the world.
This makes the film’s ending all the more surprising, when it becomes clear that there is indeed room for everyone within the group, perhaps there always has been, even if much remains unspoken for the time being.
Through its concise narrative style and the precise use of cinematic storytelling techniques, the filmmakers manage to maneuver between tension, intimacy and light-heartedness. For this, we are awarding DICKFLIP by Dominik Hadziewicz this year’s Jury Prize in the International Short Film Competition.
